Common questions

Will my phone work with a Costa Rica eSIM?
Most phones released since 2019 support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and recent Samsung Galaxy S and Note models. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. You can check in your settings: if you can add an eSIM or see an EID number, you are good to go.
When should I install it?
Install it before you travel, while you still have wifi. The eSIM stays dormant until it connects to a network in your destination, so installing early does not start the clock.
Does my usual number keep working?
Yes. The eSIM is a second line purely for data, so your normal SIM stays active for calls and texts. Many travellers turn off roaming on their main line and let the eSIM carry all the data.
Can I make calls in Costa Rica?
These are data-only plans, so they do not include a local phone number for regular calls. Calls and messages over WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram or Signal work normally on the eSIM data.
What happens when the data runs out?
The plan simply stops carrying data — there are no automatic charges and no overage bills. You can buy another plan at any time, and some bundles reduce speed rather than cutting off entirely.
